Hi - 

to fix this, you need to start with a fresh source untar of (and clean
build directory for) glibc when working through chapter 6 of LFS 7.2. 

That's because, in section 5.7.1, the book instructs you to do the
following prior to building glibc for the first time:
sed -i 's/ -lgcc_s//' Makeconfig
which in turn prevents the library libgcc_s.so from being linked, but you need 
it
for the tests in 6.9 to work (and of course you now have the library symlinked
in /usr/lib/, post chapter 5 and the instructions in 6.6).

Hope that helps. It took me an evening figuring it out first time!
