Thanks for that. You're absolutely right, and after restarting and chrooting again it was fine (think I must have left that out of PATH). However, now I'm getting an error from zic:

zic: Can't open leapseconds: No such file or directory

I'm seeing a leapseconds ASCII text file in the timezone directory. Maybe another silly mistake.

Have you run make install after you've built glibc? zic should be installed in /usr/sbin iirc.
