That is a really weird error - in a normal LFS build, help2man is a
parameter for the build-aux/missing script. If I'm reading that part
correctly, it *either* just touches the existing output file, *or* it
reports "help2man is required to generate this page" when the file is
missing.
In a normal LFS build the help2man program doesn't exist, and the
pages are already there. But this output seems to be invoking a
*real* help2man program from within chroot.
Ahmad, is help2man somewhere on your PATH in chroot ? What do you
get when you run
grep '^HELP2MAN' coreutils-8.21/Makefile ?
In my case (on a completed system, building in /scratch) I get
ken@jtm1 /scratch/ken $grep '^HELP2MAN' coreutils-8.21/Makefile
HELP2MAN = ${SHELL} /scratch/ken/coreutils-8.21/build-aux/missing --run help2man
If your version shows a real program there, something is wrong.
And I don't really understand why HELP2MAN is being invoked. On my
builds I don't see that. Are you doing something different from
what is in the book, e.g. extra patches ? Does the md5sum of your
coreutils tarball match the value in the book ? Is /mnt/lfs full ?
