I have:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root   root           3 Aug 23 07:06 cdrom -> sr0
crw-rw---- 1 root   cdrom    21,   3 Aug 23 07:06 sg3
brw-rw---- 1 root   cdrom    11,   0 Aug 23 07:06 sr0

but no dvd.  I see no reference to dvd in the udev rules.  However the 
write_cd_rules script should create rules that make cdrw, dvd, or dvdrw 
under certain conditions.  I think that buried in the hwdb now.
