We do the equivalent in chapter 6.
Baho's configure switches look nicer than my suggestion.
It's really unclear to me why an editor is needed inside chroot. Is
LFS being built from a console only? If so, transition to the 21st
century:

The windows can be virtual terminals in Xorg or ssh sessions. It's
slightly less convenient, but they can also be virtual consoles.

I usually try not to get involved with discussions of differing opinions
on the list. I said in my posts that I do this only as a matter of
convenience, and would probably have gone on to do just exactly that
except I was worried about my tool chain. Yes, the checks in Ch. 5 were
fine, but both in Ch. 5 and Ch. 6 of my LFS-7.4 build all the checks and
testing succeeded, yet there was a big, big error. As I have also said,
building vim at this point and installing it in /toolz--a result of my
error--became an exercise of my gaining confidence in my tool chain
before I proceeded. I learned quite a bit.
