(OK, not the way I'd do backups, but hey ... ).

Presumably you're doing this in the $LFS dir, namely /mnt/lfs  .

If so, then you have created /mnt/lfs/lfs.backups/  .

You want now to move the 'lfs.backups' dir outside of /mnt/lfs : move it
to be under /home : so you should now have /home/lfs.backups/  .

Don't worry about moving/removing anything else from under /mnt/lfs just
yet: instead, see next question.

(I know you wanted to push on with this on your Sunday. NB that it seems
that you're ca 7-12 time-zones behind).

The above excerpt is completely irrelevant here.

You (basically) don't need/want to be using 'chroot' here.
