I beg to desagree.
Makefile+spec bring me consistency, I can redo whole the process over
and over
getting the same result (even if it is not successful) changing one
parameters, being sure previous step are done the same.
Make spec file force me to have a real understanding, going further
than "cut and past".

Your distro, your rules. Just don't expect a lot of help when doing uncommon things.
