I generally use SystemRescueCD as a livecd in order to build my LFS Systems. It works rather well, although once you download the sources I believe you might have to install bison from source with the following commands (as root):
$ ./configure --prefix=/usr && make && make install Be sure to run these after decompressing the source directory and delete it afterwards. I believe William Harrington (correct me if I am wrong) has an updated version of the LFS LiveCD somewhere (I cannot seem to find it on the CLFS website though. It gives an infinite redirect loop).
