This is a follow-up to my original post about
errors in building Glibc-2.22 in section
6.9.1 of the LFS-7.8 book.

After replacing the defective RAM module, I
started all over again with the LFS-7.8
build. This time when I got to section
6.9.1, I was able to build Glibc without
any errors (except for a few errors reported
in 'make check', which I guess are expected).
This time I did not need to use the
largefiles patch, I just followed the stable
LFS-7.8 book. So it appears that the bad
RAM was causing all of my problems.

If you have followed the instructions in
the LFS book but are still getting
inexplicable errors, it might be worthwhile
to check your RAM. The memtest86 program
is a free download, and it seems to do a
very thorough job of testing memory. By
the way, the quick memory check that
occurs at boot-up is not a reliable
test, at least not on my system -- it was
not able to detect the defective RAM.
