Well, maybe... but the OP's requirement of "official GNU packages only, from official GNU repos" is *seriously* restrictive. You can't use the stock Linux kernel - you have to use GNU's libre- linux fork, which drops a lot of hardware support. You can't mount filesystems (mount is provided by util-linux). You can't set up networking (no net-tools or iproute2). Populating /dev, you'll have to do the old fashioned way - scripts running mknod - since you can't have either systemd or any of the udev alternatives. I think that's the important issues, but I might have missed a few... So if you can get around that, sure, you can watch movies in the framebuffer. Well, at least, if you can find an app that can do it... do GNU have any video player apps, framebuffer libraries, or video codecs? I'm not aware of any. Simon.
