Not sure, but I think those keys are not interpreted directly by
/bin/bash, but are converted by the terminal. You may want to look at
the command "stty". Something like "stty erase ^H" could do. You can
display the settings with "stty -a". Of course, as the others have said
while I was writing: Look at the bootscripts...
