That's because in chapter 5, mpfr, gmp, and mpc are built in-tree with gcc. If 
gmp is built separately and built using the generic FSF configure script, it'd 
work for reusing with a generic x86_64 toolchain for multiple machines with the 
AMD64 instruction set.
