You may want to search the lfs-support mailing list archives for previous questions like this. One thread exists: http://archive.linuxfromscratch.org/mail-archives/lfs-support/2014-November/048103.html Most distributions meeting or exceeding the host system requirements usually work best. Problems may be encountered when using a bleeding edge distribution with the latest package updates, especially in the tool chain. They can interfere with the build process with the package versions LFS may use. One example... a newer version of GCC may not build an older version of GCC. I have had no major issues with Debian, Gentoo, Arch, openSUSE and Slackware after they are configured to build LFS.
