I lean toward your point of view but there are quite a few users that have quite the opposite opinion.

Note that there are only two packages in the systemd version of the book that are not in the sysv version. Thanks to one of our developers (DJ), the books use a common source tree. With that, less than 10% of the source differs between the books. The cost in terms of maintenance time between the two versions is really quite minimal for now.

The larger difference is in BLFS where the systemd version has gnome (which requires systemd or a lot of hacks).
