Dear all,

what is the best way to safe /tools after step 5.37. Changing Ownership ?

I like to safe it on an usb-stick.

Can I use tar? If yes with witch options, please?

Thank you for your answers!

Hi Axel,

My preferred method is using tar.

Place yourself in the root of you LFS Installation and run:

tar cvf Tools-Backup.tar ./tools/
or
tar cvzf Tools-Backup.tar.gz ./tools/

To backup the entire LFS Installation, make sure the Virtual Filesystems are unmounted, then in the Root, run:

tar cvf ../System-Backup.tar .

Be sure to include the ../ otherwise tar might try to eat itself ;)

Best regards
 Michael
