I'm having a problem with lftp. After using it for years it stopped working
when we got that new firewall. I traced the problem down to the transparent
ftp proxy running on that firewall. What happens is that the proxy redirects
the connection from lets say ftp.debian.org:21 to its own port on the
firewall and then opens its own connection to ftp.debian.org:21. While the
client thinks it is connected to ftp.debian.org it in fact is connected to
my firewall.
When lftp sends the passive command and gets the passive reply in return
listing my firewall's IP number plus a port. Now lftp tries to connect to
that port on ftp.debian.org instead of the firewall, i.e. it ignores the IP
number send and tries to connect to the host I originally told it to.
I'm not an expert of the FTP protocol but the way I read the RFC this is a
bug. Or did I miss something?
