lftp seems like a very promising program for me but i cannot seem to get it
to connect to other ftps through a socksv4 proxy (i have not tested it for
socksv5 proxy)
i compiled the program with ./configure --with-socks; make; make install
and it runs fine and nice with no errors during the installation
i go to edit the lftp.conf to add my proxy to the

'set ftp:proxy xx.xx.xx.xx:1080'

and save it and then rerun lftp
when i rerun 'lftp -d' to connect to say..ftp.debian.org this is what i get

---- Connecting to proxy xx.xx.xx.xx (xx.xx.xx.xx) port 1080
`ls' at 0 [Logging in...]

and it will sit there till it times out (2 minutes?)
the proxys i am using are suppost to be anonymous and i can test them out in
mozilla by throwing it into SOCKSv4 proxy and running mozilla (with suceess)
im using debian sid with 2.4.17 kernel
im sorry for being so long but im at the end of my rope and i dont know what
else to do
thanx
