Ok, that's it ... bye folks ... I have taken great care to control spam and out of my personal email, other mailing lists and even the newsgroups I take, these lists are now by far my main source of "spam" - it's got to a stage where I can't be bothered with these lists anymore. Amusingly I know a number of people who just reject mail from .ru - the only reason I haven't is because of the source of these lists. Thanks for lftp, it still is the *best* ftp client I've come across and no doubt will continue to be so, but the lists really do need a dramatic overhaul.
