Roger,

To the best of my knowledge the names of the files and the characters used
in naming the files shouldn't affect a directory listing. It could I guess
but it is unlikely. 50,000 files is a lot of files but it should be okay. It
would take a while to collect them up on the server's side, push the listing
down the pipes and display them on the client side. Having said that, we
should be talking about minutes here, not hours. Try disabling SSL like
Alexander says. It worked for me!
