In the psymodel API modifications, the number for PSY_MAX_CHANS was chosen completely arbitrarily.
As the commit message says, patch 2/3 only implements the rest of the 3GPP psymodel without mid/side. There are a lot of special cases for mid/side in the spec. As our mid/side is pretty broken, this part seemed unnecessary until it is fixed. aacenc.c is not the correct place for saving the number of bits used, it should be in aaccoder.c somewhere, but I am not sure where to put it.
