I'm fine with the output, I'm a bit wary about doing a full context in
this case, but I'm not very partial one way or the other.

My suggestion is still to have three files:

 - one implements the walking/outputting logic;
 - two implements the outputs (json/ini), and at the end of each they
include the former;

What happens is then you have the logic present only once, yet you don't
use function pointers at all, which means they can be optimized more by
the compiler...

Of course it might be overkill.
