Hi,

I think we are making good progress with the Libav 10 release. It
seems that many of our downstreams are now eagerly waiting for a new
release, and we should not let them wait for that too long.

The biggest remaining issue that I currently see is that there are
quite a number of changes in Libav 10 that may break existing
applications. In order to help downstreams, Libav 10 will feature a
migration document, which is prepared at
https://wiki.libav.org/Migration/10. Many thanks to everyone that has
contributed to it.

So if you are interested in the release, or know of some application
that is not using or working with libav 10 yet, please take a moment
to review the migration document and port that application. If you
encounter problems (which is not too unlikely), then please reply to
this email or in #libav-devel about it; we definitely should address
this in the migration document.

Depending on the feedback, I'd suggest to decide next weekend what to
do next. This may be either another alpha release, or a beta release,
which will then also mark the branching point, at which the master
branch is starting to diverge from the release branch. After this, the
usual rules for backporting patches and features known from earlier
release branches apply. Nevertheless, feedback from actual users, and
experience reports from porting applications to Libav 10, are
instrumental for making a decision here, so please report back.

If you have concerns with this approach, or you know of important
features or bugs that you think the release should really really
include, please mention them in the release tracker bug:
https://bugzilla.libav.org/show_bug.cgi?id=Release10

Again, thanks a lot to everying who is helping to make this a great release!

    Reinhard
