I'll be sure to do that.
I have resolved the linking error by wrapping the includes for *libav *with
an extern "C"{} clause.
It is failing to open my video, however, this is probably quite a common
issue to be more thoroughly searched before asking about it.
That still leaves the remaining second part to my question if anyone has
anything useful to add or useful resources to point me towards.
