Which version of libav are you using?

how much cpu blenderplayer is taking?
Yes, BlenderPlayer is a Game Engine. It takes 40% or more... but it's
irrelevant to the main problem. It starts at 30fps and then it starts
getting lower and lower and get freeze... till clicking the window. Even
avconv/avplay window is in focus. Even without BlenderPlayer running!
You might get better results by switching to x264 in ultrafast mode.
I tried to use x264, but it starts after 5 seconds, more or less... and,
when it gets freeze and I click the window, there're a lot of artifacts.
No matter if it has or don't have ultrafast preset.

I tried mjpeg, mpeg4, libx264, rawvideo... they all do the same. Maybe
something in avplay?

could you please try with the current git or even a release 11 ? 9 is quite old.
