Maybe on your cpu RAM speed is the bottleneck (i.e. cpu is very fast) so it's able to keep up. Now compare it with lanczos...
I have tried to write my own simple downscaler (really simple with no antialasing filtering etc.) and it's speed is fine, so I think that won't be a memory bottleneck
