and when i try to compile the examples present under ffmpeg/examples,

the command i used to compile example file demuxing_decoding.c is
$ gcc -o demuxing_decoding demuxing_decoding.c -lavutil -lavformat
-lavcodec -lz -lavutil -lm
And when i looked into libavutil directory, there was no avconfig.h.
Could someone please let me know, where i have gone wrong.

have you configured and install ffmpeg before trying to compile examples
