Greetings,

I've gotten a basic decoder working on video that is in a container (using
av_open_input_stream) but it falls on its face when I send it an mpeg4 /
h.264 elementary stream.

I spent the last two days looking at VLC, because it uses ffmpeg and IS able
to play the video.
It looks to me like VLC does its own mpeg stream parsing and avoids using
libavformat.

My question is this: Should I be looking at writing my own parsing functions
and using av_register_input_format() to register them with libavformat? Is
the idea that you can extend the functionality of libavformat in this way?

If I could somehow avoid this work, I'd be really happy! Are their no
elementary stream parsers for libavformat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
