Subject: [libav-user] moov atom not found
I need to attach a viewer to an mp4 file which is in the process of
being generated by ffmpeg. However, I do not seem to be able to open
the file (I get "moov atom not found" reported). As soon as ffmpeg has
finished writing the file ('q' has been pressed), I can open it with my
viewer (but not until that point).
Is there some fundamental reason why the viewer should not be able to
open the mp4 file before ffmpeg has finished writing to it? It is
clearly growing on disk and one would have thought it should be
accessible.
It is essential that my application can capture the video stream to disk
while it can be viewed at the same time (preferably by a separate
process).
---------------------------------------------------------
I have now read that ffmpeg puts the moov on the end of the file instead
of at the beginning.
Does the moov contain data which can only be placed in the file at the
end of its capture? If not, has anyone managed to arrange for ffmpeg to
put the moov at the beginning of the file so that the file can be played
BEFORE it is complete (i.e. as per a normal streaming file)?
