Hi
I am using FFmpeg libavcodec in a Video-over-IP application,
mainly using the H.263 and H.264 video codecs. I have some questions
about how to send and receive Full INTRA-frame Requests (FIR) packets.
But first of all I want to give big credits to the developers
of FFmpeg, I like the nice and clean APIs, source code quality
is good, and codec quality is good. Thank you.
When two Video endpoints are sending video packets over RTP/UDP,
and if there is some packet loss, you might loose some key frames.
The decoder should be able to see this, and it could send an
out-of-band FIR request to the encoder.
>From my understanding there a couple of way to signal this,
including these specs:
RFC 2032 RTP Payload Format for H.261 Video Streams
RFC 4585 Extended RTP Profile for RTCP-Based Feedback (RTP/AVPF)
RFC 5168 XML Schema for Media Control
so here are my questions:
1.) Is it possible with libavcodec to request the encoder to send
a key-frame, in case a FIR packet is received ?
2.) Is is possible for the decoder to notify the application when
an expected key frame was lost ?
thanks in advance for any help
/alfred
