Thanks Clément. The code looks like what I hoped to avoid: libavformat.
You tell libavformat to get "one packet" that you feed to the decoder. I
have buffer containing XXX byte of MP3 data and I can't (yet) tell how
many frames I have in there, where one starts and ends.
Nevermind, I'll read the libavformat-docs/headers and hope to find
something useful there.
ffplay.c is also still there to be read :)
