Just for other distros benefit, the Fedora samba spec installs the 
package config .pc files manually, so other distros may need similar 
hacks in their specs:
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/samba/devel/samba.spec?revision=HEAD&view=markup
(search for "pkgconfig" to see the relevant bits)

/me is currently bribing someone to fix the mdv samba spec
