If you think the problem libcdio getting the wrong device, then you can explicitely give a device name. For example
cd-info /dev/sg1 The other SCSI errors you are getting in your logs are when libcdio issues MMC commands. I think you would get exactly those messages if you had the wrong kind of device. If you just want to test out running a mmc-command to see that the log and running the command are related, use mmc-tool. As for how libcdio determines if something is a CD-ROM or not on GNU/Linux, it issues ioctl(cdfd, CDROM_GET_CAPABILITY, 0). See lib/driver/gnu-linux.c in the routine is_cdrom_linux.
