I'm a bit tied up right now, so I'll attend to the details later. Just  
to let you know that it is not about proving a point, but about  
avoiding avoidable problems. If the library version numbers can be  
computed from the libtool interface numbers to match the  
major-minor-patchlevel scheme, it'll be perfectly fine with me. I just  
want to avoid maintaining two series of numbers manually which, to the  
best of my knowledge, are linked to each other anyway.
