Hi Miles, I'm working on a project that's trying to achieve the first two of those three goals (http://briar.sf.net). I'd be interested in collaborating on the third goal. A lot of thought has already gone into asynchronous collaborative editing - Groove, Wave, Etherpad and distributed version control systems spring to mind. Groove in particular was designed for a P2P setting, and the protocols are well documented: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc313128%28v=office.12%29.aspx Perhaps we could start by identifying the subset of Groove's functionality that would be needed for an Etherpad-like use case?
