Hi Yosem, Just wanted to fill in a bit on the future of the 3D printer and the huge impact that is going to have in society.
The first 3D printer that I ever saw was around 1998 inside the Chrysler building, Detroit. They used layers of cardboard at the time to design their own Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep prototypes. They later filled in with a Bondo type material to fill in the cardboard holes and finally giving it a car paint finish. The operation was huge and extremely expensive. This fact of the high cost alone, creates a monopoly of talent and opportunities. Only a few talented human beings had access to this technology creating a huge loss of talent and ideas, until now. The recent boom in 3D printer and the price drop in production will unleash a torrent of decentralized talent that will shake traditional monopolies as we know them. In the future, among other interesting applications, I can predict that 3D printers will be used with living tissue in order to create simple human organs like lungs, fingers, ears, nose, among others. I hope to have sparked your imagination and helped you in any way. The future is so bright, we need to wear shades! They have it listed as a 2 hour presentation so I need some help. To make matters worse the only printer we have working decided to have a stepper motor die. So now I have 10 hours to make this work. Any good suggestions on topics I should cover? I'm going to try and cover open source hardware, history, how printers work, current uses and anything else you guys can help me think of. I'm also going to try and put together a one page handout that will help get people more information on 3d printers. So anything you all can do to help me out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
