At the Guardian Project, we use Sparkleshare, for both public and private/encrypted shares. It works with Tor, so we also run our shared storage repo on a Tor hidden service, so that its physical location is unknown to the clients. Anyhow, Hans Steiner wrote up our setup here: https://guardianproject.info/2013/11/12/your-own-private-dropbox-with-free-software/ It works, is simple and usable. +n -- Liberationtech is public & archives are searchable on Google.
