Hi LibTechrs, As you may know, RightsCon Southeast Asia <http://rightscon.org> is taking place March 24-24 in Manila at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
For those of you who have participated in a RightsCon in the past, you know that these conferences are opportunities for different communities to come together - activists, companies, thinkers, investors, engineers, and government officials all gather to discuss the tensions and opportunities at the intersection of human rights and the internet. Why Southeast Asia? Because it's a region where 40% of the world's internet users are making incredible uses of emerging and online technologies to develop their economies and champion human rights - while at the same time experiencing censorship, surveillance, and attacks on basic rights. This year, Access <http://accessnow.org> has teamed up with EngageMedia <http://engagemedia.org> and local partner Foundation for Media Alternatives <http://fma.ph>, and we're working to create spaces for multistakeholder dialogue on human rights best practices in the tech sector in Southeast Asia. Our program is open to submissions <https://rightscon.org/submitasession/why.php>, and we're looking to you to help us shape the agenda. We're encouraging submissions on the following themes: - Protecting rights online in the age of surveillance - Technology and infrastructure interdependence - Digital rights and economic development - Freedom of expression and Open Data - Tech solutions for human rights challenges - Limiting and measuring risk in the ICT sector *The deadline for submissions is November 15th.* If you have any questions, please head over to our guidelines <https://rightscon.org/submitasession/guidelines.php> page, or email Rian Wanstreet (rian (at) accessnow (dot) org). And because we love you guys, here's a 25% off code <https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rightscon-southeast-asia-tickets-9589902657?discount=EB25> for tickets. Really looking forward to seeing you in Manila!
