Hi Everyone, Just wanted to flag a new challenge competition that may be of interest to folks on the LiberationTech list.
*Rethink Supply Chains: the Tech Challenge to Fight Labor Trafficking* launched last week. The Challenge is an open call to use technology to address key challenges associated with labor trafficking in global supply chains – specifically, enhancing workers’ voices and ability to connect with each other and report labor violations, increasing transparency around exploitative foreign labor recruitment, and enhancing traceability of products and labor conditions in at-risk sectors. Rethink Supply Chains will award $500,000 in prizes, including $20,000 cash prizes for finalist ideas and an ultimate grand prize winner grant of $250,000 to build out the proposed idea. The Challenge is being led by Humanity United, a part of the Omidyar Group which represents the personal, professional, and philanthropic interests of Pierre and Pam Omidyar. First round submissions are open until December 13th, 2015. Check it out and consider submitting as there is surely overlap in the areas of expertise and interest on this list and this challenge.
