Hi all, Passing along the following announcement for a friend.
Please contact Luis Arroyo - luis.arroyo1...@gmail.com or Humberto Cuebas - humberto.j.cue...@gmail.com with questions or interest in joining the project. Realengos A key player in Puerto Rico’s efforts to relief from the devastation caused by hurricane Maria, was the diaspora. Recent events around the world, such as hurricane Maria, have reminded us about the power of being connected. Realengos aspires to become a platform that enhances and facilitates that connection between people and communities around the world. The word ‘realengos’ is a colloquial word in Puerto Rico meaning ‘without home’ or ‘stray’. We believe that the unconnected, the people without a community, are realengos. Our efforts to connect with others, bring people out of the shadows and show them that they are accompanied are efforts to stop being ‘realengos’. In keeping with the community spirit, Realengos’ philosophy is to partner with the individuals and the communities who join the platform. This means that 1) personal ‘data’ collected will remain property of the individual and/or community and 2) the members will play a role in the governance of the platform. Note: we intend to make metadata and aggregate level data public - in support to researchers, policy makers and other interest parties. Project and Team Our first project is a ‘registration and connection’ website targeted mainly to Puerto Ricans around the world. Our team is composed of experienced and well connected Puerto Ricans in the diaspora, entrepreneurial and technology network in Puerto Rico.
