Advances in technology are likely to represent the largest change and 
opportunity for the legal profession in coming years. The move towards online 
courts, the use of technology to perform everyday lawyerly tasks and the use of 
Artificial Intelligence to analyse and replicate legal decision-making are all 
likely to revolutionise the workplace for many of our students.

The School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University is seeking to appoint a 
Lecturer (grade 6 / 7) in Legal Technology and Innovation whose research and 
teaching explores the impact of digital technology and innovation on law and / 
or legal services. This could include specific expertise in Information 
Technology Law, the legal consequences and context of artificial intelligence, 
the interpretation and significance of 'big data', the role of law in relation 
to the digital economy, e-participation and e-government and other issues 
concerning emerging digital technologies.

The post holder will be expected to carry out research into the effect of 
technology upon access to justice and upon legal services as well as 
contributing to our teaching agenda by exploring how the Law curriculum needs 
to adapt in light of technological change.

The post holder will also contribute to the teaching of one or more foundation 
subjects in Law, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, develop 
links between the Law and Politics departments within the School and contribute 
to the successful administration and management of the School and its 
constituent departments.

The successful candidate will have obtained a PhD or equivalent in Law, 
Politics/Political Science, Computer Science or an allied field by the time the 
appointment begins. They should also have demonstrable potential of excellence 
in both research and teaching.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), and open-ended.

Salary:
£32,548 - £38,833 per annum (Grade 6 ) or
£41,212 - £47,722 per annum (Grade 7)
