REGULATION HILL
It's a miracle that the total burden of government, as measured by the
Americans for Tax Reform, did not increase this year. According to ATR, "Cost
of Government Day" fell on July 4, the same as 2004. But that's only because
the economy grew more rapidly than expected. Had growth matched initial
projections, COGD would have fallen on July 8. However, even July 4
demonstrates that government costs way too much. It's more than half of the
year and is five days beyond the COGD in 2000.

TRIAL BY CONSTITUTION
One way to tell that the movement toward impeachment has already begun, and
that it has members in the most unlikely of places, and indeed members who will
publicly deny they are moving in that direction at all, is the introduction of
the language of Constitutional conflict. The current slogan of the Democrats in
both House and Senate is that the Republicans are guilty of "Abuse of Power."
It is a phrase that should be familiar: it is the title of Article II of the
Impeachment Articles passed by the House Judiciary Committee on July 29th,
1974.

THE INCREDIBLE BLIGHT OF TV PUNDITRY
During wartime -- and the current U.S. war efforts have no end in sight --
corporate media managers see waving the flag as a very good business practice.
In sharp contrast, offering challenges to militarized mind sets is apt to be
viewed as quite hazardous.
