William Weld has his eye on the New York State governor's race next year, a source close to the blue state Republican says. "He says he's clearing up his business now and that he's close to making a final decision," the Weld associate tells the New York Post. If he decides to make the run, Weld won't have to pretend he's a New Yorker. He has a place in the northern Sullivan County hamlet of Lew Beach, according to New York's Times-Herald Record. But convincing conservatives that he's their man might be more difficult. Weld once said he had few ideological differences with Hillary Clinton. Chairman Long has warned that winning conservative support would be an uphill battle for Weld.
