The great inovation in information technology (IT) of a few hundred years ago was the printing press!
Information (content) not approved by, or convenient for, the established order of that day could now be given wide distribution. Despite efforts to scare people away from the new medium and promote things like book burning, the terrified old world order began to fall. Kings were overthrown and people began to consider that, instead of being just property, they could be 'peers' and 'equal before the law' and many other exciting concepts. The world Changed! The great inovation in information technology (IT) in our time is the combination of cheap personal computers and the internet. We now have the greatest most spectacular 'library' in the history of the world, that ordinary people can readily access and sort thru from their own homes via some of the most powerful information processing instruments (the home computer) ever known to humankind. This same, increasingly ubiquitous, personal IT capability also facilitates mass individualized communication and interconnectivity.
