Dear uncoolrabbit: Let us imagine that a population somewhere does just consume everything in sight and then just sits there, unable to think of any remedy except cutting back on the number of their offsprng. Let's just say that this population then just gets older and older and eventually dies. It is possible that if this population had just had a few MORE children, it would have survived. The additional child or children might have been the one(s) to discover electricity or to bring it into the region. He or they might have been the one(s) to discover how to irrigate, or might have been the one(s) to discover any one of many, many things that would have enabled the population to continue. Anyway, after the extinction of the population, no one would be able to prove that having more children would not have helped. As long as a problem might POSSIBLY be solved by increasing the number of people, then I am reluctant to say that this problem is correctly termed "overpopulation."
