Whether you think Texas is a state or an occupied nation, there's a chance that the Republic of Texas revival movement could actually succeed in at least regaining some of our freedoms if not complete liberation. But most of the RT factions have other agendas besides freedom, e.g. interfering with your business, your religious freedom, and who knows what else. Unfortunately some of them may be getting close to reaching certain milestones which could enhance their perceived legitimacy and thus their influence. To help offset these other factions, as well as to concentrate on the goal of liberating Texas, we've set up an explicitly libertarian/objectivist RT movement. We need to recruit and sign up 20-40 new people from all over the RT area (TX and parts of NM, CO, WY, KS, and OK) to join, become citizens, run for office, vote for themselves, and thus help us reach a quorum in Congress so that the historical RT will be legally revived. I want the vast majority of these people to be libertarians or objectivists so we can keep moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, due to the racism in the old 1836 Constitution, blacks and "Indians" (native Americans) can't be citizens; we are not racist and as soon as our RT gov't is at quorum and legal to function, we intend to amend the constitution to remove all the racism, sexism, slavery, etc. Then we can admit citizens of all races and hold new elections. But we have to reboot the government legally under the existing rules before we can legally change the rules. Otherwise we'd be no more legitimate than the other factions, which would completely defeat the purpose of our efforts to do it right. So for now we need whites, orientals, and hispanics; others can join later after we can amend the Constitution (they can join the New RT now but this urgent need is for the Historical RT). I'd like significant participation by religious and sexual minorities (in fact I'd personally like for no single broad religious category to have a majority), but the main thing we need is a strong (unbeatable and committed) libertarian/objectivist majority. This is something you can do on the side in parallel with your other activities. If you think it's a long shot, then think of it as a long shot worth giving a try; or think of it as a diversion, or a chance to actually hold a national office in an actual country, something most of us would never get to do otherwise. I hope this won't be considered off topic, as I hope many LP members and other libertarians and objectivists would be interested, especially those of you opposed to theocracy and religous oppression. Please bear with this message, I feel like there's a real need here. If you don't see this as important, please consider participating just for fun anyway, or as a long shot. It can't hurt. By the way, I'm a long time on-and-off LP member and some of you may know me, but I feel that I must use a pseudonym for the time being. Those of you who are religious, don't get me wrong, so am I, but as libertarians or objectivists, surely you understand and support separation of church and state, and we badly need your help to offset the "we are a Christian nation" bias most of these movements have. Why should you care, if the Republic of Texas is irrelevant or nonexistent? Because there's a good possiblity that it's not, and that the movement will soon get its act together and be able to at least restore partial freedom to Texas, so we need the right people to get our input into the movement before it gets slanted too much in the wrong direction. Perhaps most of you, like most people, dismiss the Republic of Texas independence/restoration movements as irrelevant wackos. Our of curiosity, I began studying what web sites I can find, and some of their factions (not all) seem to very possibly be somewhat legitimate, and apparently there is historical evidence (or at least good arguments via the Non-Aggression Principle) that the 1845 annexation was illegal and invalid and the Republic of Texas is still an independent nation whose government has been put to sleep by the occupation US government. Some factions are trying to revive the RT under the rules of its 1836 Constitution, which seems to me to be the most logical approach (it's my understanding that once the government is legally revived, the constitution will be amended to remove the slavery, racism, etc.). Others are trying to essentially recreate the RT from scratch based on the principle (in common law and in several constitutions) that the people have the right to change their government, such as the Texas Constitution 2000 project. We're the only group combining both approaches. In response to the confusion of multiple bickering factions, I've decided to create a new overall movement to discover and re-unite the legitimate factions under a more libertarian/objectivist/NAP umbrella. This is especially to help counteract the tendency many of these factions appear to have toward making the RT a theocracy even if they don't consciously realize that's what they're doing. The web site I've started is at http://freecountries.org which I'm still working on, and its RT effort is at http://texas.freecountries.org which I'm also still working on. My approach is similar to the Universal Planetary Alliance (an objectivist movement to educate individuals as to their NAP rights) approach but see my web site above for differences. There are some volunteers helping with this effort and at some point we can use more. Although we haven't had time to finish our version of the Bill of Rights, I hope you'll trust me based on what's there so far. It seems that the first faction to elect enough senators and reps to make a quorum will be the first to be able to more credibly claim to be the legitimate RT government. I would like our group to be able to make that claim. We very much need to have a strong majority of libertarians and objectivists in office so we can reach our quorum and its enhanced legitimacy and influence as soon as possible so that we can help prevent the other factions from theocratizing the RT or making it too conservative. ------------------------ Yahoo!
