National Security Agency gets fix on Internet users
Top secret group applies for patent to ID physical address of Web surfers
Internet users hoping to protect their privacy by using anti-virus software,
Web anonymizers, false identities and disabled cookies on their computer's Web
browser have something new to worry about a patent filed by the National
Security Agency (NSA) for technology that will identify the physical location
of any Web surfer.
Patent 6,947,978, granted this week, describes a process based on latency, or
time lag between computers exchanging data, of "numerous" known locations on
the Internet to build a "network latency topology map" for all users.
Identifying the physical location of an individual user, reports CNET News.com,
could then be accomplished by measuring how long it takes to connect to an
unknown computer from numerous known machines, and using the latency response
to display location on a map.
The rate at which data travels over the Internet constantly varies due to the
amount of traffic, the size of data files, the constant changing of hardware
and software by millions of users. Sometimes the system is slow, sometimes it
is fast. Because of this variation, knowing how long it takes for a signal to
travel to a location and back is not sufficient to identify it's location. But
knowing the latency of the entire system at a given moment and the latency for
a specific computer provides a means of knowing relative locations, however
fast or slow the Internet is operating.
While most users are unaware of it, their computers are able to "ping" website
addresses to trace the route their connection took and how much time was
required to complete the operation. Likewise other computer users hackers,
for example can ping their computer as well when connected to the Internet.
It is this feature that the NSA's patent seeks to exploit.
The NSA patent does not describe the intended use of the technology by the
agency, noting only general uses like measuring the "effectiveness of
advertising across geographic regions" or flagging a password that "could be
noted or disabled if not used from or near the appropriate location," according
to CNET News. But given NSA's status as the nation's premier cryptologic
organization, it's unlikely the technology will be used to improve advertising.
NSA is so secret that its acronym has been said to stand for "No Such Agency."
According to its website, "the National Security Agency/Central Security
Service ... coordinates, directs, and performs highly specialized activities to
protect U.S. government information systems and produce foreign signals
intelligence information. A high technology organization, NSA is on the
frontiers of communications and data processing. It is also one of the most
important centers of foreign language analysis and research within the
government."
The agency has come under fire in the past for spying on American citizens. In
the 1970s, the agency was forced to admit that it had used its eavesdropping
equipment against Jane Fonda and other anti-Vietnam War activists. The
revelation led to a 1978 law banning spying by the agency on U.S. citizens and
resident aliens anywhere.
In 2000, following reports revealing the existence of Echelon, a massive
data-mining project that filtered electronic and voice communications around
the world, then director of the National Security Agency, Air Force Lt. Gen.
Michael Hayden, and his boss, CIA Director George Tenet, assured Congress, "We
protect the rights of Americans and their privacy. We do not violate them and
we never will."
"If, as we are speaking this afternoon, Osama bin Laden is walking across the
peace bridge from Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Niagara Falls, New York, as he
gets to the New York side, he is an American person and my agency must respect
his rights against unreasonable search and seizure as provided by the Fourth
Amendment to the Constitution," Hayden testified.
Post-9-11, if bin Laden goes online, NSA may actually know where he is.

300,000 Surround White House
in Largest Antiwar Protest Since War Began
Dear Wanda,
With the support of everyone in the antiwar movement around the country, the
September 24th demonstration was a magnificent success. We had hoped for
100,000 people, and more than 300,000 joined the protest. We received media
coverage all around the world. The article below, from the Washington Post,
took up the front page of the newspaper above the fold. The A.N.S.W.E.R.
Coalition initiated this demonstration on May 12, 2005 under the slogans "Stop
the War Against Iraq" and "End Colonial Occupation from Iraq, to Palestine, to
Haiti and Everywhere." We also later connected the war in Iraq with Bush's
criminal neglect in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. On May 12, we also
proposed to the United for Peace and Justice that our two coalitions enter into
a united front for the purpose of maximizing the broadest possible turnout in
the streets. We believe that the final agreement to organize a joint rally and
joint march was in the best interests of launching a wider struggle against
the war-makers.
Everyone should feel very proud in the success of this demonstration, and the
large-scale protests that also took place in San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Seattle, and in other cities. More than 350 cities and towns organized
transportation to come to Washington DC. The commitment and self-sacrifice of
local organizers speaks to the fact that this movement has taken off.
If you could not go to the demonstration or you know a friend or family member
that could not go, but would like to have gone, you can now join the
demonstration from home! A.N.S.W.E.R. has set up an easy mechanism so you can
let the politicians know that you stand with the more than 100 thousand people

Antiwar Fervor Fills the Streets
Demonstration Is Largest in Capital Since U.S. Military Invaded Iraq

Tens of thousands of people packed downtown Washington yesterday and marched
past the White House in the largest show of antiwar sentiment in the nation's
capital since the conflict in Iraq began.
The demonstration drew grandmothers in wheelchairs and babies in strollers,
military veterans in fatigues and protest veterans in tie-dye. It was the first
time in a decade that protest groups had a permit to march in front of the
executive mansion, and, even though President Bush was not there, the setting
seemed to electrify the crowd.
Signs, T-shirts, slogans and speeches outlined the cost of the Iraq conflict in
human as well as economic terms. They memorialized dead U.S. troops and Iraqis,
and contrasted the price of war with the price of recovery for areas battered
by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Riffs on Vietnam-era protests were plentiful,
with messages declaring, "Make Levees, Not War," "I never thought I'd miss
Nixon" and "Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam." Many in the crowd had protested in the
1960s; others weren't even born during those tumultuous years.
Protest organizers estimated that 300,000 people participated, triple their
original target. D.C. Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey, who walked the march
route, said the protesters achieved the goal of 100,000 and probably exceeded
it. Asked whether at least 150,000 showed up, the chief said, "That's as good a
guess as any.
"It's their protest, not mine. It was peaceful -- that's all I care about,"
Ramsey said.
The protesters rallied at the Ellipse, then marched through a misty drizzle
around the White House and along Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The crowd thinned as
events continued into the evening with a concert on the grounds of the
Washington Monument that featured Joan Baez and other performers, along with
antiwar speeches.
The police presence along the demonstration's route seemed more relaxed than at
recent protests, although D.C. police and U.S. Park Police had hundreds of
officers in place to deal with potential trouble. Police said a construction
fence was torn down and a newspaper box damaged, but they reported no injuries
or major problems. They said three people were arrested -- one on a charge of
destruction of property, one on a charge of attempted theft and one on a charge
of disorderly conduct.
More than 200 counter-demonstrators set up outside the FBI building on
Pennsylvania Avenue, and some back-and-forth yelling occurred as the antiwar
marchers moved past. "Shame on you! Shame on you!" one counter-protester
shouted at the antiwar group. Several dozen officers stood between the two
groups, and no trouble erupted, police said.
Some organizations supporting the war in Iraq plan to demonstrate today on the
Mall.
Antiwar groups staged smaller rallies yesterday in Los Angeles, San Francisco,
Seattle, London, Rome and other cities. In Washington, the events were
sponsored by groups including the ANSWER Coalition and United for Peace and
Justice and focused on a succinct theme: "End the War in Iraq and Bring the
Troops Home Now."
Roughly 147,000 U.S. troops are in Iraq. Since the war began in March 2003,
1,911 U.S. members of the military have been killed and 14,641 have been
wounded.
The protest groups helped organize caravans and carpools, and many participants
began arriving early in the morning after bumpy, all-night bus rides.

Bush plea for cash to rebuild Iraq raises $600

An extraordinary appeal to Americans from the Bush administration for money to
help pay for the reconstruction of Iraq has raised only $600 (£337), The
Observer has learnt. Yet since the appeal was launched earlier this month,
donations to rebuild New Orleans have attracted hundreds of millions of
dollars.
The public's reluctance to contribute much more than the cost of two iPods to
the administration's attempt to offer citizens 'a further stake in building a
free and prosperous Iraq' has been seized on by critics as evidence of growing
ambivalence over that country.
This coincides with concern over the increasing cost of the war. More than $30
billion has been appropriated for the reconstruction. Initially, America's
overseas aid agency, USaid, expected it to cost taxpayers no more than $1.7bn,
but it is now asking the public if they want to contribute even more.
It is understood to be the first time that a US government has made an appeal
to taxpayers for foreign aid money. Contributors have no way of knowing who
will receive their donations or even where they may go, after officials said
details had be kept secret for security reasons.
USaid's Heather Layman denied it was disappointed with the meagre sum raised
after a fortnight. 'Every little helps,' she said.
In the past 12 months, Americans raised some $250bn for charity, including
other foreign causes such as the Asian tsunami victims. Layman said: 'There is
no financial goal. People are looking for a way to help rebuild Iraq and this
is a way to facilitate that.'
The fundraising comes amid concern that some US projects in Iraq will be
scrapped or only partly completed because of rising costs. Some officials fear
that money may run out before key projects are completed.
Last week, the number of US troops killed in Iraq rose above 1,900.

Hundreds Rally in D.C. for U.S. Troops

WASHINGTON - Support for U.S. troops fighting abroad mixed with anger toward
anti-war demonstrators at home as hundreds of people, far fewer than organizers
had expected, rallied Sunday on the National Mall just a day after tens of
thousands protested against the war in Iraq.
"No matter what your ideals are, our sons and daughters are fighting for our
freedom," said Marilyn Faatz, who drove from New Jersey to attend the rally.
"We are making a mockery out of this. And we need to stand united, but we are
not."
About 400 people gathered near a stage on an eastern segment of the mall, a
large patchwork American flag serving as a backdrop. Amid banners and signs
proclaiming support for U.S. troops, several speakers hailed the effort to
bring democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan and denounced those who protest it.
Many demonstrators focused their ire at Cindy Sheehan, the California woman
whose protest near President Bush's Texas home last summer galvanized the
anti-war movement. Sheehan was among the speakers at Saturday's rally near the
Washington Monument on the western part of the mall, an event that attracted an
estimated 100,000 people.
"The group who spoke here the other day did not represent the American ideals
of freedom, liberty and spreading that around the world," Sen. Jeff Sessions,
an Alabama Republican, told the crowd. "I frankly don't know what they
represent, other than to blame America first."
One sign on the mall read "Cindy Sheehan doesn't speak for me" and another
"Arrest the traitors"; it listed Sheehan's name first among several people who
have spoken against the war.
Melody Vigna, 44, of Linden, Calif., said she wants nothing to do with Sheehan
and others at nearby Camp Casey, an anti-war site set up to honor her son,
Casey, who was killed in Iraq.
"Our troops are over there fighting for our rights, and if she was in one of
those countries she would not be able to do that," Vigna said.
The husband of Sherri Francescon, 24, of Camp Lejeune, N.C., serves in the
Marine Corps in Iraq. One of the many military wives who spoke during the
rally, Francescon said that the anti-war demonstration had left her frustrated.
"I know how much my husband does and how hard he works, and I feel like they
don't even recognize that and give him the respect he deserves," Francescon
said. "I want him to know and I want his unit to know that America is behind
them, Cindy doesn't speak for us, and that we believe in what they are doing."
Organizers of Sunday's demonstration acknowledged that their rally would be
much smaller than the anti-war protest but had hoped that as many as 20,000
people would turn out.
On Saturday, demonstrators opposed to the war in Iraq surged past the White
House in the largest anti-war protest in the nation's capital since the U.S.
invasion. The rally stretched through the night, a marathon of music,
speechmaking and dissent on the mall.
National polls have found steadily declining support for the war in Iraq, with
a majority of Americans now believing the war was a mistake.
In an AP-Ipsos poll this month, only 37 percent approved or leaned toward
approval of how Bush has handled the situation in Iraq; strong disapproval
outweighed strong approval by 2-1, 46 percent to 22 percent.

Yesterday the countdown for a final U-Turn for ANSWER
and Cindy Sheehan was finished. Neither ANSWER or
Cindy Sheehan took the opportunity to address the truth
about 9/11. While ANSWER's attitude is not surprising at
all, Sheehan was contacted by members of 9/11Inside
Jobbers, 9/11Truth Action (who actually spoke with her) ,
9/11 Visibility (Bill Douglas told me he was supposed to
meet her on Crawford) and also Jimmy Walter had the
phone number of her 'mamgement' and tried to contact
her. I'm not aware of any attempt of 911truth.org to
contact her. They did not show up at Sheehan's protest in
Union Square in NYC.
Worse, Sheehan met Hillary Clinton (who voted pro-war
and suggested more troops) and constructed the false-
hope implication, that Hillary 'might change her opinion',
when she runs for Office.
No personal pain is any excuse for irresponsible
behavior. If someone uses personal pain for political
exploitation, one has to reach out for all aspects of the
truth. Sheehan clearly failed for this.
I therefore will not tolerate any Sheehan or anti-war article
in this group, if it doesn't reach out for a clear message,
that 9/11 was an Inside Job.
I point out again, that ANSWER INTERNATIONAL has to
be declared as war criminals, covering up fabricated
evidence by Office of Special Operations (Douglas Feith
+ Co.) and Tony Blair for an illegal ivasion of Iraq. They
covering up the truth about 9/11. They covering up the
truth about exploitation of fascism, also increased since
New Orleans. This is unacceptable and undebatebale.
ANSWER has to beld accountable in front of TheHague,
together with the real perpetrators of 9/11 for complicity
of crime on humanity.

The Cakewalk War

The "cakewalk war" is now two and one-half years old.
US casualties (dead and wounded) number 20,000. As
20,000 is the number of Iraqi insurgents according to
US military commanders, each insurgent is responsible
for one US casualty.
US troops in Iraq number about 150,000. Obviously, US
troops have not inflicted 150,000 casualties on the
Iraqi insurgents. US troops have perhaps inflicted
150,000 casualties on the Iraqi civilian population,
primarily women and children who are the "collateral
damage" of the "righteous" and "virtuous" US invasion
that is spreading civilian deaths all over Mesopotamia
in the name of democracy.
What could the US have possibly done to give America a
worse name than to invade Iraq and murder its citizens?
According to the September 1 Manufacturing &
Technology News, the Government Accounting Office has
reported that over the course of the cakewalk war, the
US militarys use of small caliber ammunition has
risen to 1.8 billion rounds. Think about that number.
If there are 20,000 insurgents, it means US troops
have fired 90,000 rounds at each insurgent.
Very few have been hit. We dont know how many. To
avoid the analogy with Vietnam, until last week the US
military studiously avoided body counts. If 2,000
insurgents have been killed, each death required
900,000 rounds of ammunition.
The combination of US government owned ammo plants and
those of US commercial producers together cannot make
bullets as fast as US troops are firing them. The Bush
administration has had to turn to foreign producers
such as Israel Military Industries. Think about that.
Hollowed out US industry cannot produce enough
ammunition to defeat a 20,000 man insurgency.
US military analysts are beginning to wonder if the US
has been defeated by the insurgency. Increasingly,
Bush administration spokesmen sound like "Baghdad
Bob." On September 19 the Washington Post reported
that US military spinmeister Major General Rich Lynch
declared "great success" against the insurgency that
had just inflicted the worst casualties of the war,
including a three-day mortar attack on the "safe"
Green Zone.
Anthony Cordesman, a military expert at the Center for
Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC,
says: "We cant secure the airport road, cant stop
the incoming (mortar rounds) into the Green Zone,
cant stop the killings and kidnappings." The
insurgency controls most of Baghdad and the Sunni
provinces.
With its judgement lost to frustration, the US
military has 40,000 Iraqis in detention twice the
number of estimated insurgents. Who are these
detainees? According to the Washington Post, "Many of
the men detained in Tall Afar last week were rounded
up on the advice of local teenagers who had stepped
forward as informants, at times for what American
soldiers said they suspected amounted to no more than
settling local scores."
Obviously, the US, not knowing who or where the
insurgents are, is just striking blindly, creating a
larger insurgency.
The Iraq government, despite being backed by the US
military, is unable to control movements across the
Iraqi Syrian border. So the Bush administration has
passed the buck to Syria. Puny Syria is declared
guilty of not doing what the US military cannot do.
Adam Ereli, the demented US State Department
spokesperson, denounced the Syrian government for
"permitting" insurgents to cross the border. The US
government cannot prevent a steady stream of one
million Mexicans from illegally crossing its border
each year, but Syria is supposed to be able to stop a
couple hundred foreign fighters from sneaking across
its border.
Ereli misrepresents Syrias inability to be "an
unwillingness" which indicates that Syria is
consorting with terrorists, not only in Iraq, but also
in Lebanon and Palestine. Does this sound like Syria
being set up for invasion?
According to news reports, at Ted Forstmanns annual
meeting of movers and shakers last weekend, US
Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, predicted that
US troops will soon enter into Syria. Simultaneously,
the Bush administration is desperately trying to
orchestrate a case that it can use to attack Iran.
Stalemated in Iraq, the White House moron intends to
attack two more countries.
At the Human Rights Conference on September 9, the
former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad,
described Americans as "people with blood-soaked
hands."
"Who are the terrorists," asked Mahathir, the Iraqis
or the Americans?
The entire world is asking this question.

My Speech at the Antiwar Rally

I was invited to speak at a peace march and rally in Birmingham, Alabama,
sponsored by the Alabama Peace and Justice Coalition, and gladly accepted the
offer to speak against the war in Iraq.
Yes, as you might guess, the program was dominated by leftists who rightly
oppose the war but want big government to run the economy. I accepted for the
same reason I would accept an engagement to speak against taxes even if
sponsored by a right-wing group that also favored the war and militarism.
The opportunity to make a difference in favor of freedom should not be passed
up, even if one's associates have a mixed-up ideology. After all, most
ideologies these days are mixed up, and have been for the better part of a
century.
Those who want free markets domestically typically want central planning and
socialism when it comes to war and peace, while those who see the merit of
diplomacy and minding one's own business in foreign policy can't reconcile
themselves to capitalism as the only economic system that lets people alone to
live happy, prosperous lives.
Now, one might think that the old liberal view, the view of Jefferson and his
School, might be more widely held: namely that the government ought not lord it
over anything. But somehow everyone seems to have a stake in big government,
whether to rule the world or expropriate the rich. So what can we do but
encourage the good parts of what people believe and discourage the bad parts?
In any case, I was glad to speak before this group, and they were gracious to
ask. The challenge was to put together a three-minute speech that summed up the
libertarian case against the Iraq War not easy to do.
I was aware that I was a token non-leftist speaking to a largely leftist
audience.
Among the slogans of the day was that we should spend less on the war and more
on social needs. Libertarians can agree in some way: give everyone back their
money and let each individual spend on his or her social needs!
There are two potential failings in such a venue: kowtowing to the audience or,
the opposite error, ungraciously rubbing their noses in their inconsistencies.
It strikes me that the only way to proceed here is simply to tell what's true
as best as one is able, and to heck with rhetorical strategy.
The speech seemed well received. A minister from an AME church came up to me
and said "you express my views exactly!" I had my doubts, but that's great if
true. Similarly, there was a young kid wearing a shirt that said: "War is the
symptom; capitalism is the disease." He was cheering very loudly, so who knows?
Maybe I made him think.
What follows is my text. If you read it yourself, you will see that I went
longer than three minutes. I might have just reduced it all to: "down with the
warfare-welfare state, and up with peace and free trade."
War and Morality
By what ethical standard should we judge the state? One tradition, which we
might call anti-liberal, asserts that there are special laws of morality that
apply to the state alone. Another tradition, the liberal tradition, says that
states must abide by the moral standards that apply to everyone in all times
and all places.
The first view is the ancient one. It permitted and expected states to pillage
and kill. The right and wrong of statecraft was dictated by the sword. The idea
of universal moral laws and universal human rights did not find favor among the
Caesars and Pharaohs, any more than this idea appealed to later dictators.
Yet the liberal tradition gradually abolished the idea of caste and special
legal privilege. It asserted, more generally, that no group possesses a special
license to lord it over others.
St. Augustine might have been the first to observe that the moral status of
Alexander the Great's conquests was more egregious than the pirate's
depredations. The pirate molests the sea, but the emperor molests the world.
The view that states can do wrong is the most powerful theory of politics in
the history of the world. It led to the birth of the dream of universal
freedom. Slavery, imperialism, colonialism, militarism, and authoritarianism
all came to exist under a moral cloud.
At the same time, freedom and individualism unleashed human energies and, in
the setting of free economies, created a prosperity beyond any ever known. This
made possible the vast expansion of the world's population, and human
flourishing as never seen before.
Given this history, and the central role that the American Revolution had in
furthering the liberal idea, we must ask the question: what does the US
government not understand about the evil of imperialism, the immorality of
enslaving a foreign people, the malice of colonialism, and the intolerable
brutality of authoritarianism?
In fact, the theory of the modern American regime is a throwback to the ancient
view, that the US operates under special rules.
The US believes it can starve foreign countries such as Iraq by imposing killer
sanctions that a high US official said were worth the lives of hundreds of
thousands of children.
The US believes that it can use its weapons of mass destruction to threaten any
country in the world on the very suspicion that it might be trying to defend
itself. The US can then phony up intelligence, overthrow a leader, and install
a regime of its choosing. Not to worry: its magical military Midas touch will
transform that country into a paragon of democratic freedom just as soon as
all political opposition is silenced or destroyed.
In short, the US government believes that it operates under a different moral
standard, not only from the moral standard that regular people apply to their
own affairs, but even different from the moral standard that the US applies to
other states.
And who pays the price for this moral hypocrisy? The victims of war.
Of all forms of collectivist central planning, war is the most egregious. It is
generated by the coercive force of taxation and monetary depreciation. Its
means are economic regimentation and the violation of the freedom to associate
and trade. Its ends are destruction and killing crime on a mass scale.
War leaves in its wake orphans, widows, parents without children, sickness,
hatred, and spiritual and psychological trauma. It gives power to dictators on
all sides. It is based on a lie that mass death can ever accord with justice.
It attempts to silence those who tell the truth.
Indeed, war is a kind of totalitarianism. It is a policy without limit. It
demands from us all that we have to give: our money, our children, our minds,
even our souls. Too often people give it all. Too often, Americans give it all.
George Bush was brazen enough to make the doctrine explicit. If you are not for
him, he says, you are for the terrorists.
He said it because the state fears the advocates of peace. It fears the truth,
and those who tell the truth. It fears those who dare to judge the state by
normal standards of morality.
The state fears you. Why? Because you hold the opinions that you do, and refuse
to surrender your mind, your talents, your soul. By joining the resistance, you
help thwart their plans. You help establish the basis for peace in the future.
You help preserve and develop civilization, for the human family can only
thrive in a setting of peace.
So I say to you: Keep making the sacrifice. Believe in peace. Proclaim peace.
Stand up to the state. Be a dissident. Tell what is true. And do not fear the
emperor-pirates. They, after all, fear you. For you help tilt the balance of
history against their barbarism, and in favor of peace and freedom.

We are both incorrect so likely we don't know of whom each other is thinking.
To place us both on the same page...(see links pasted below), I should have
spelled it with a "K". I met his lovely granddaughter when in Carrington, ND. A
lot of people there like to fanatize him as alive yet and too smart for the
Fag--- Bas---- Idiots. It is their way, more than likely of not doing
anything because, of course, their hero is out in the wind fighting the battle
and exposing the truth. It's interesting because I recently read from my files,
FBI's THE MEGGIDO PROJECT, (WHICH SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) while referring to
Kahl, and the so-called "New Millineum." The FBI author of this pathetic
treatise mentioned the Posse Comitatus group in N.D., but never the Posse
Comitatus Act of 1878, stated ter rorism was as likely TO happen as NOT TO
happen with the Y2K, AND failed to consider the the conflict arising from the
changeover from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar.(Did I get that right?)
The globalists, when one corrects to calendar changeover makes the events,
since 9/11, if I understand correctly, right on time with the real millineum.

The NRA is facing another round of loss of membership because far too much
information about what they really do is coming out. Also the disarming of the
people of New Orleans etc. was far too well publicized and Pro Second Amendment
groups were garnering more and more of the peoples attention and money.
So what else would the NRA do?
They jumped on board to make it appear to the ignorant that they intended to
follow their original charter. Follow the original charter? FAT CHANCE! They
have been totally taken over by the miscreants.
When under attack, put up a smoke screen so that you are not such an obvious
target.
