If anyone caught the new ABC-TC series tonight about a woman, played by Geena Davis, who ascends to the presidency, there is an obvious similarity to Condi Rice. The Mackenzie Allen character is white, married, and served two terms in the House of Representatives, but she was also a university chancellor (Rice was Provost at Stanford, a similar but more hands-on job), and an expert in foreign policy. Interestingly, the program refers to Hillary by name as the former First Lady, and does so disparagingly. Looks to me like the program is a stalking horse for a Rice candidacy.
A Hillary v. Condi match would be interesting. While I expect to support the Libertarian, who I expect will be Michael Badnarik, I would be a lot less uncomfortable if Condi won than if Hillary did. Both parties are singularly lacking in potential candidates that are "presidential". The TV show makes an interesting point when it has "Mac" giving her maiden speech before a joint session of Congress and the teleprompter fails, forcing her to finish her speech extemporaneously, which she does well. The only high national public figure who can consistently do that well is Condi Rice, who is her own speechwriter, something that has not been lost on pundits. The fact that she says she doesn't want the job (she says she wants to become NFL Commissioner), only makes her that much more attractive to many, which has led to the Draft Condi movement.
