I have heard that it was McCarthy who endorsed Clark. McCarthy after
leaving the senate was involved in minor party politics and ran for
POTUS a couple times as a candidate of a minor party. I don't think he
had anything to do with the LP however and he probably was not a
libertarian but may have been in agreement with some of the LP
platform and positions given that he endorsed Clark.
