Money will corrupt politics as long as it can influence the outcome of
elections.
When the country was founded, voters sought out and paid for the information
they
would need to make voting decisions. This gave sources of that information an
incentive to be complete and accurate, and afforded little opportunity to
influence elections by spending much money on campaigns. But now voters resist
political information, forcing candidates to resort to expensive campaigns to
penetrate the attention barriers they erect around themselves. If people want
to
take the money out of politics, they have to put their own money into politics
and
make voting decisions in ways that no amount of money can influence.
