This is amazing. NY Times Editorialist Paul Krugman has a long editorial syndicated nationwide today slamming those on the Right who have been bashing Bush for "spending too much on domestic programs." Krugman concocks this theory that it's all a big conspiracy cooked up by the Heritage Foundation. The line goes that Conservatives are mad at Bush cause he's such an imbecile, and they know it, so in order to protect themselves they have to attack Bush on too much domestic spending. "The bulk of the increase was accounted for by increased spending on defense..." Krugman charges. He goes on to charge that the Heritage Foundation and others are using bogus numbers to make it seem like Bush has actually increased spending calling it all a "smokescreen" of numbers to hide Bush's real agenda of downsizing government. Isn't that interesting. And extremist Libertarians charge that Bush is a Big Government Socialist and offer numbers to "prove" that Bush is a Big Spender. Flies right smack dab in the face of what the NY Times is saying.
